MYSTERY surrounds Louth racer Peter Hickman’s weekend after his Kawasaki team revealed he had not been released to take part in the World Superbike Race at Donington.
This morning it was revealed that Hickman would be riding for FIXI Crescent Suzuki in the World Superbike Championship race to fill in for the injured John Hopkins as his own Kawasaki team have a weekend off in their British Superbike campaign.
But his MSS Bathams Kawasaki team said this afternoon (Friday) that Hickman had not officially been released.
A statement said: “It is being reported in some sections of the media that MSS Bathams Kawasaki rider, Peter Hickman, has been released by the team to compete on a rival manufacturer machine as part of the Donington Park round of the 2012 World Superbike Championship.
“MSS Bathams Kawasaki and Kawasaki Motors UK wish to assert that this is not the case, that Peter Hickman has not been released by the team to take part in the event and has made the decision to take part of his own volition.
“Neither MSS Bathams Kawasaki or Kawasaki Motors UK will make any further statement at this time.”
Hickman, 25, was out this morning testing his Suzuki in Friday Practice and qualfying practice and posted a best time of 1’30.904 to put him in 17th position.
He had earlier said he was ‘so happy’ to have the chance to ride for Suzuki but expected a ‘steep learning surve’.
