Louth Indoor Bowls Club take on Horncastle

THE LOUTH Indoor Bowls Club Men’s Over 60s team failed in their bid to move off the bottom of their county section despite winning 102-94 at home against next-bottom Horncastle.

They only won on two rinks but gained extra bonus points for the aggregate victory as losses on the other three rinks were by no more than three shots on each. But it still wasn’t enough.

The club’s knockout finals began last Friday evening when Andy Leggett produced a fine performance to win the Men’s Open Singles by beating Harry Putland 21-13.

In the Men’s Over 60s Singles Roger Ellis beat Vic White 21-7.

The Ladies Fours saw a comfortable win for Wendy White, Joan Stones, Yvonne Roper and Lu Woods as they won 26-12 against Margaret Leggett, Sue Page, Wendy Dyson and Renee Kearney.

In the Mixed Triples Barrie Robinson, Jonathan Darley and Jean Holdsworth got the better of Alan Watson, Wendy Blyth and Sylvia Stainton by 17-9.

Saturday saw H.Putland claim the 2-bowl Singles with a 21-12 win over Alan Oldroyd whilst a tense Men’s Pairs battle was won by T.Nielson & CMatthews who beat H.Cope & V.White 17-14.

In the Ladies Triples, Leggett, Page & Dyson made up for their Fours loss by gaining revenge over White, Stones & Roper in a cracking game which finished17-16.

Roger & Janice Ellis won the Mixed pairs with a 24-11 victory over A.Watson & W.Blyth.

Members are reminded that the club AGM takes place this Friday at 7.30pm.
