Louth snooker teams gear up for semi-final showdowns
Don Noble Bookmaker Louth Billiards & Snooker League
THE Semi-Final line-up in the Jubilee Snooker Teams Knockout will see the holders J Melton Painters take on Harness & Cooper Joiners while Sibjon Builders will face Louth Travel Centre writes Jack Westerby.
The performance of the week in the snooker cup belongs to Harness & Cooper Joiners who will take on the holders J Melton Painters in the semis after hammering Dales Poultry & Game 10-2.
The hosts only needed three frames to make the last four themselves, but they never really looked capable and the visitors chipped away with wins from Andy Dunn, Bob Strathern, Martin Turner and Pat O’Reilly sending them through where waiting for them is J Melton Painters who squeezed through with a 6-6 draw at Seymour & Castle.
Don Noble Bookmaker made a spirited late rally in their bid to snatch a last four place, but they fell at the final hurdle despite winning 8-4, John Scottorn and John Bartup nearly gave their side a semi-final spot through the back door as the league champions Kitchen Solutions went out of the cup without much of a fight.
Sibjon Builders will play Louth Travel Centre in the other semi-final and the latter will be hoping for a repeat show after beating their rivals 8-4 in the last group match, Pete Willoughby, Mark Parrinder and Brian Copeland helped their side claim second spot a point behind their defeated opponents who can thank Pete Mountain for their cup continuation while Castaline are out even though they beat Louth Building Supplies 8-4.
Billiards Teams Knockout Final
The cup holders ABC Riding Wear don’t appear to have done themselves many favours, not only did they lose the first leg at home 2-1 they also failed to fill in the scoresheet correctly which means they lose a point and now trail 2-0 and are still 101 points behind on the aggregate, Mike Rice gave them the lead, but the visiting M A Stephenson Autos hit back through both Lee Cook and Hayden Gavey.
