MALTBY le Marsh darts star Sam Hewson battled hard despite a tough draw but was unable to reach the latter stages of the PDC Unicorn Youth Tour event in Germany at the weekend.

Sam, 18, travelled to Breuhl near Cologne to compete against over 50 of the world’s top young players.

With numbers down on the previous rounds in Derby and Reading Sam was hopeful of picking up some points but lost his opener 4-3 against 15th seed Curtis Hammond.

In the Saturday afternoon match he lost out to 18th seed Samuel Head 4-0.

Sam picked up a great 4-0 win in his Saturday match against Ryan Sullivan before losing out to senior professional Reece Robinson 4-1.

In all Sam can celebrate a successful first tournament overseas after moving up the rankings from 64th to 58 and thanked his sponsors Focus Signs and ARG Plumbing for their support.
