Peter Hickman joins GB Moto team for 2013 Superbikes campaign

Louth racer Peter Hickman has joined the Surrey-based GB Moto team for the 2013 British Superbike Championship.

Hickman, 25, will take his six seasons of experience to the team, riding the CBR1000, and has insisted that his new bike will be good enough to rival the best on the grid.

GBmoto Racing announced the signing of Hickman on Monday and, after their inaugural first season in the BSB Championshps, are looking to up the ante in the bid for success.

Hickman joins the team after a top ten finish in the British round of the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park earlier this year.

He ended the campaign with the Buildbase BMW team after an appearance for FIXI Crescent Suzuki in the World Superbike Championships, and he began last season with MSS Bathams Kawasaki.

Speaking of the move, Hickman said: “Getting a competitive ride that will see me able to challenge for podium places as well as the end-of-season showdown, was vitally important going into 2013.

“And GBmoto are a team that I definitely feel are able to offer me that opportunity.

“The bikes are the equal of anything on the grid, and the team that I’ll be working with are an amazing bunch of individuals that are all proven experts in their field. I can’t wait to start testing.”

Team Principal, Mark Smith-Halvorsen, views the signing of Peter Hickman as a key ingredient to positioning the team as potential Showdown contenders.

He said: “I am really pleased to sign Peter, who scored 17 top ten results in 2011 on a Honda.

“He has shown he can compete with anybody in the British Championship, and his natural ability was highlighted again recently, when he replaced John Hopkins on the Fixi Crescent Suzuki at Donington and finished 9th.”
