Sutton on Sea Cricket Club success
SUTTON on Sea CC were able to record their first win of the season when they beat Friskney by 78 runs.
Sutton won the toss and then decided to bat after recent good performances when setting a total. However, a slow start was to follow with Sutton’s opening pair struggling to score runs against a young attack from Friskney.
D Poynton and R Brant saw a chance to increase the run rate when Elsam and Grant were introduced. Unfortunately Elsam, 3/41, managed to create loose shots.
N Sparham (58) was therefore required to come and ‘steady the ship’. This season’s top run scorer continued his good form and recorded another 50 before being stumped off the bowling of Grant.
However, with continued good scoring from, in particular, S Kirkham (48) Sutton on Sea managed to set a respectable total of 178.
This proved too much for an inexperienced Friskney side to chase down. Steve Kirkham (4/13) and Adie Culley (2/29) ripped through the top order and created panic in the lower order allowing R Brant and N Sparham to clean up the tail convincingly despite a small and threatening cameo from Snell (23).
This leaves Sutton third from bottom despite only winning one game, a credit to how many close games they have had over the past few weeks. Sutton on Sea thank Poyntons Shoes of Mablethorpe for ball sponsorship and DMJ drainage for their ongoing support.
