LOUTH Film Club has secured a double hit of triumphs in the 2011 Film Society of the Year awards.
The club had the distinction of being named runner-up in both the principal category, Best Film Programming, and in Best Marketing and Publicity.
The club was also commended for its work in bringing the best of non-mainstream films from Britain and around the world to Louth.
Film club chairman Alex McMullen said: “I know it should be reward enough that we are now attracting an average audience of over 100 to the Playhouse Cinema every other Monday.
“But it’s a terrific bonus to receive this acclaim at an awards ceremony for film societies and community cinemas throughout the country.”
Club committee members Paul Hill, Heather Jenkins and Pete Hickman accompanied Alex to the awards, run by the British Federation of Film Societies and held at the Institut Français in London.
Louth Film Club’s next screening, of the 2009 Foreign Language Film Oscar winner Departures, a Japanese comedy-drama, is on Monday, October 3.
