Mablethorpe lights switch-on survey poorly received so far

NOT many people have so far filled in an online questionnaire about the future of the Mablethorpe’s lights switch on.

Questions were posed to the public as whether there should be a single switch on or a range of events and whether a celebrity should attend.

Town Manager Karen Froggatt said: “I do want to stress that there is no intention to take away the event but what we do want to do is continue to strengthen the events programme. Over the last three years, we have seen visitor numbers for the event increase significantly, reaching a whopping 7,000 in 2011.

“Should the numbers continue to increase there is a safety issue as the current location is not suitable for this number of spectators, which is why we are considering different options.

“Over the next few weeks, we will be putting together a number of scenarios with regards to the format of the event. Once we have worked through these, we will be consulting with the local community before making any decisions on the way forward.”
