A steam locomotive that starred in a popular TV comedy series will be visiting the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway over the Easter Weekend.
The locomotive, an Ivatt Class 2 2-6-0, became a TV star in the classic BBC comedy series ‘Oh, Dr Beeching!’, which was based on a fictional branch line threatened with closure under the Beeching Axe.
The original locomotive booked for the Easter Steam Gala, Gresley N2 number 1744, had to be withdrawn because of unforeseen mechanical problems.
“This news will no doubt be a disappointment to enthusiasts who were looking forward to the appearance of this iconic engine at Ludborough”, said LWR Managing Director Frank Street. “However, with its celebrity status, 46521 has proved to be a very popular locomotive wherever it goes and we are delighted that it will be visiting the LWR this Easter”.
The LWR Steam Gala is the first big event of the year at the Heritage railway and will be held on Saturday April 4 to Monday April 6, with three locos in steam and eight trains running each day. On Easter Sunday every child who travels on the train will be given an Easter Egg.
