LOUTH Film Club’s annual pre-Christmas treat is this year the 1940 American classic The Shop Around the Corner, starring James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan.

This heartwarming comedy, set in a Budapest department store in the run-up to Christmas, sees two employees bickering without realising that they are the anonymous pen pals falling in love through the post.

The film’s re-release in December 2010 was acclaimed by reviewers.

This certificate U showing is on Monday, December 12 at 7.30pm at Louth Playhouse Cinema.

Non-members are welcome at Louth Film Club’s screenings, paying the normal Playhouse ticket prices.

Details of the club and its films can be found online at, or you can pick up a 2011/12 programme from Off The Beaten Tracks record shop in Aswell Street, Louth (closed Thursdays), Louth Library or the Playhouse Cinema.
