Over 2,000 of the Rotary Shoeboxes have come in from all across Lincolnshire during this year’s appeal and will all reach their destination for Christmas.
The Leader, alongside a wide number of local schools, all became involved with this year’s appeal to fill up a shoebox with gifts for young children and the elderly to enjoy in Eastern Europe who may not have received a present this year if it wasn’t for the generosity of all of those involved.
Leon MacLeod of the Rotary Shoebox Scheme said: “On behalf of the trustees of the Rotary Shoebox Scheme, I wish to thank you all for taking part in this year’s appeal, without your support we wouldn’t be able to make this scheme possible. Your boxes will begin to be loaded onto the box trailer from this week. A total of around 12,000 boxes will be ready for delivery to Ukraine, just in time for Christmas.
“Initially, they will be delivered to Kiev and from there, will then go out to the surrounding villages and as far east as is safe to do so.”
