One of Louth’s most popular sporting stars is up for a top award.

Cricketer Arran Brindle has been shortlisted for the Sportswoman of the Year gong at the Lincolnshire Sports Awards 2013.

Arran has been shortlisted alongside Sophie Wells MBE and GB Swimmer Sophie Allen.

She was a core player for the England team playing in all seven matches at Test Match, One Day and T20 level against Australia.

She played a huge part in regaining the Women’s Ashes Trophy from the World Champions.

Arran also became England’s premier all round cricketer this year taking the second highest number of wickets and scoring the third highest number of runs for the England Team in a one day game.

Marc Rhodes, Events Officer at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, said: “The number of nominations this year was fantastic and I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate someone for an award.

“We are delighted with the shortlist which truly represents some of the best sporting talent Lincolnshire has to offer.

“Arran has had a fantastic year, and she is an inspiration to sportsmen and women across the county.

“The panel were delighted to shortlist her for this award and I look forward to meeting her, and the other candidates, on the evening.”

Arran, with Caroline Atkins, set the world record for women’s cricket when they put on an unbeaten 150 run opening partnership in a Test against India in Lucknow.

Playing for Louth in 2011, she became the first woman to score a century in men’s semi-professional cricket when she scored 128 against Market Deeping.

The Lincolnshire Sports Awards is an annual event organised by Lincolnshire Sports Partnership to recognise sportsmen and women across the county in sport and physical activity.

The winners will be announced at the awards evening on Thursday, November 7, at the Lincolnshire Showground.

Tickets, which cost £50, are available from Lincolnshire Sports Partnership and include a three course meal and wine reception.
