MABLETHORPE was among 4,200 places across Great Britain and the Commonwealth to light a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Beacon on Monday night.

Shortly after 10.15pm the beacon was lit among the many thousands lit at the same time in different parts of the world.

An array of fireworks then lit up the night sky to mark the occasion.

The beacon and fireworks were the culmination of a full day of free Queen’s Jubilee events organised by East Lindsey District Council.

Thankfully after Sunday’s washout the sun made an appearance and despite some chilly sea winds, thousands of people turned out to enjoy the day.

See the Leader on sale tomorrow for a Jubilee special including reports and pictures from events across the Louth and Mablethorpe area.
