STUDENTS at the Birkbeck College North Somercotes have performed at a significantly higher level than the national average in key GCSE subjects.
They say despite the national drop in the GCSE pass rate this year, this year’s GCSE results at Birkbeck are amongst the best in the college’s 48 year history with 60 per cent of students achieving 5 or more A* - C grade passes.
In GCSE English 71 per cent of students achieved the higher grades, significantly above the national average. ICT, Sports Studies and Business achieved 100 per cent pass rate at Grade C and above.
There were a large number of individual successes, including Christopher Coxen who achieved a record number of 15 A* - C grades, Lloyd Roberts with 11 including 2 A* and 2 A grade passes, Sophie Browne with 11 including 2 A* and 3 A’s and Rebecca Dunning who achieved 11 subjects at the higher grades, including 6 at grade A.
Headteacher Lynda Dobson said: “These results reflect the result of all the hard work by students, teachers and support staff, not to forget the support of parents.”
