A RECRUITMENT fair is hoping to ease Mablethorpe’s high rate of unemployment by offering 150 jobs and training opportunities.
East Lindsey District Council and Jobcentre Plus have organised the sixth annual jobs fair next month in a drive to match employers with local applicants.
As of December, 369 people were claiming jobseekers allowance in Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea, an unemployment rate of 5.2 per cent. This is well above the East Lindsey average of four per cent and the national figure of 3.9 per cent.
“The fair will be a great opportunity to bring together employers and training providers at one venue, helping jobseekers to see what options are available to them,” said June Jones, employer adviser for Job Centre Plus.
As a coastal holiday resort Mablethorpe is heavily reliant on seasonal employment, meaning opportunities for work are often limited during the winter months.
Employers will be recruiting for part and full time jobs and apprenticeships as well as volunteering placements and training openings.
“The event has grown every year since it began,” added June. “There will be lots of opportunities for people on offer.”
The fair takes place on Friday, February 17 between 10.30am and 2.30pm at the Community Centre in Stanley Avenue.
Those planning to attend can take advantage of a series of skills workshops being held beforehand at the Boatshed. These will cover CV preparation, interview skills and application form advice.
They take place between February 8 and 16. To book a free place call 01507 479165.
