Wind energy firm team up with East Lindsey District Council to support SO Festival

With just one month until the start of SO Festival 2013, organisers have announced Centrica Energy, and their partners in the Lincolnshire offshore wind farm, as the event’s primary private sector sponsor.

The festival offers a diverse programme of digital arts, music, street theatre, dance and contemporary performances taking place across East Lindsey between June 28 and July 7.

Simon Merriweather, managing director power generation at Centrica Energy said: “SO Festival is an incredible event and we’re very proud to be the festival’s primary private sector sponsor.”

“Having worked in the area for several years, we recognise that the festival brings a vibrant assortment of arts and culture to the East Midlands and also has a significant impact on the economy in East Lindsey.

“We play an active role in local communities where we operate so, together with our partners at DONG Energy and Siemens Project Ventures, we’re excited to associate ourselves with the SO Festival as one of the highlights of East Lindsey’s cultural calendar.”

Portfolio holder for culture, leisure and tourism at East Lindsey District Council, councillor Adam Grist, said: “We’re extremely proud to welcome Centrica Energy as our primary private sector partner this year for SO Festival.

“Their support is greatly appreciated and has enabled us to develop a wide-ranging programme with something for everyone. We are also working with Centrica to develop new cultural events outside of SO Festival.”

In 2012, SO Festival brought in over £1m to the district’s economy, creating 684 volunteering opportunities.”
