We’re now into week two of the Christmas Crime Prevention Campaign, launched by the Police.
Last week we introduced the appeal and here is the first set of tips and advice to deter thieves this Christmas.
First on the agenda is of course that all-important Christmas shopping, something everyone will be doing over the next couple of weeks.
Police Community Support Officer, Andrea Cave said: “Christmas is a busy time of year for everyone – including criminals.
“Take a few moments to ensure that your money is safe and that you do not make yourself an easy target for pickpockets and thieves.”
Here are a few handy tips to help you on your way:
• Don’t carry large amounts of cash on your person. Use a payment or credit card if possible or if you are paying by cash, only take out reasonable amounts of money from the cash point and return for more when you need it.
• If you are carrying a handbag, keep it close to you at all times. Ideally, keep it fastened and tucked under your arm, or with the strap across your body.
• Don’t leave purses or handbags unattended even for a second. Be particularly aware not to leave them unattended on a supermarket trolley or on a shop counter.
• Don’t leave valuables on display in vehicles.
