A Cleethorpes man has admitted making off without paying for petrol at a Louth garage, Skegness Magistrates Court has been told.

Paul Applegate, 29, of Montgomery Road, has been previously cautioned for two similar offences.

Applegate was said to have put £53 worth of petrol into his 1960 Vauxhall Corsa car at Darke’s Garage in Grimsby Road, Louth at 6.35pm on July 8 and driven off without paying. After his arrest he admitted what he had done and said he had been ‘stupid’.

Applegate, who was not represented, told the magistrates that he would pay the garage back.

“I was skint at the time,” he said.

The magistrates fined him £110 and ordered him to pay £53 compensation and a £20 victim surcharge.
