700 bales set alight in Covenham St Mary blaze

ARSONISTS set fire to around 700 bales of hay at a farm opposite the church at Covenham St Mary.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 8.17am on Saturday and were on the site until 7am Sunday morning, relief crews came throughout the 23 hour period to assist.

The crews let the fire burn itself out in a controlled manner before they left.

Arsonists had already set alight the farmer’s bonfire earlier on before returning.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue confirmed that the cause was deliberate.
