THERE have been a number of reports concerning women who use online dating agencies being targeted for fraud in the county.
In many of the cases the unknown people and organisations are thought to be based in Africa.
These people use the guise of being military personnel who are based in Afghanistan and tell the victim that they want to send a parcel to the UK.
The victim is then asked to accept the parcel and then asked to pay for the parcel to be received.
Detective Sergeant Ian Jarman, Head of Lincolnshire Police’s Economic Crime unit, said: “There have been a number of ‘romance scams’ where the vulnerable and lonely are duped into sending people money. Unfortunately, many of the people who operate these scams are very convincing and go to great lengths to gain their victim’s trust and confidence.”
