Update: Men arrested in Burwell on suspicion of attempted murder

Update: The five arrested men have now been charged with aggravated burglary, and are due to appear before Lincoln Magistrates today (March 9).

Police have revealed that five men were arrested in Burwell, near Louth, yesterday (March 7) on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident in Skegness.At about 4.25pm yesterday, police and ambulance crews were called to an address on South Parade in Skegness. Two victims, both men aged 23 and 18 respectively, were found injured at the location, said police.

One of the victims was treated and released from hospital later the same evening. The second victim has been subject to a serious assault, and remains in hospital. He received significant injuries and is currently described as ‘critical but stable’. The suspects are believed to have left the scene in a Silver Ford Focus.

At about 5.05pm the same day, police located the Ford Focus being driven on the A16 at Ulceby Cross. The vehicle refused to stop for officers and was caused to stop, on the A16 near Burwell. A total of five men, all aged between 20 and 30, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They are currently assisting police with their enquiries.

The senior investigating officer DCI David Rimmer said: “This was a brutal attack for which the motives are currently unclear. Although we have arrested suspects I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed anything that may be connected to this incident either on South Parade, Skegness or on the A16 yesterday in the late afternoon.”
