It is D-Day today (Friday) for Lincolnshire County Council as it considers major cuts to services - and possible job losses.

The authority must save around £40m in the next 12 months after a massive reduction in funding from central Government.

Councillors were set to discuss the range of savings proposed by the controlling Conservative group at today’s budget meeting.

The council has performed something of a U-turn after a late injection of extra cash from Westminster.

According to council leader Martin Hill, that means rural bus services, road repairs and children’s centres will all escape the axe.

However, Coun Hill admits ‘tough decisions’ will still have to be made at today’s meeting.

We’ll have regular updates during the day from County Hall so keeping checking on this website - and our Twitter and Facebook pages.

• Next week’s paper will also feature a special report on the meeting.
