The chairman Sheila Minns welcomed a good audience to the meeting of the Barkwith and district Gardeners Association when a talk on growing vegetables was given by Dave Newman, a very experienced and excellent speaker.
His extensive knowledge gained throughout a career which had led him through lecturing and consultancy, he was well qualified and happy to share his expertise with the members as he gave advice on where and what to grow according to the conditions available.
He had good slides to illustrate the points he was making on the various aspects of growing vegetables including companion planting and he answered questions from the audience before thanks were expressed to him and he offered a selection of plants for sale.
The flower of the month competition was won by Sheila Minns and Kate Wright took names of those interested in attending the annual dinner which is to be held at The Buzz Stop at Thornes Beehive Park at Rand.
Les Robinson was thanked for arranging the coach trip to Little Ponton Hall where the visitors had been amazed at the expanse of snowdrops and aconites in particular available for visitors to admire.
