East Lindsey District Council spends £120,900 on illuminations for Mablethorpe and Skegness

£120,900 is the cost that East Lindsey District Council spent on illuminating Mablethorpe and Skegness foreshores this year according to a report.

The budget spans for the current financial year (2012-13) and is a combined expendiure for both coastal towns.

At a full meeting of the authority, Coun Daniel Simpson said it money was ‘money well spent’ because the lights generated a ‘feel good factor’.

Partly to refresh the lights and partly to save money, it was agreed that private contractors should be invited to submit bids to take over the illuminations cost on a leasing arrangement as from next year.

What are your thoughts on this latest figure? Is it too much to spend on illuminating our local coasts?
