All smiles for Birkbeck GCSE pupils

GCSE results were being celebrated at Birkbeck College in North Somercotes on Thursday with a number of delighted students achieving high grades across the board.

57% of the year group gained 5 A*-C grades with 100 per cent of students achieving 5 or more recognised GCSE qualifications.

Among the most successful students were; Lauren Mitchell (8A* or A grades among 12 passes at C grade or above) and twins, Max and Daniel Forman, who shared a bumper 20 GCSE A*-C grades.

A fantastic 10A*-C grades were also gained by Declan Godfrey, Oliver Taylor, Sophie Thompson and Bethany Winn.

Headteacher Lynda Dobson said: “I am extremely proud of our students’ achievements. There are some notable individual success stories.

“We are particularly proud of the fact that 70% of our students achieved a C grade or above in English, comfortably above the national average.

“In Extended Project students gained 100% success rate with 6 levels of progress being made. One student’s project is of such high calibre, it is going to be published.

“This year has seen a lot of changes in the educational landscape, so I am particularly proud of these results. Students and staff are to be commended for their hard work and dedication.”
