College factors in examination success for maths students

THE maths department at Birkbeck College is celebrating a very successful year.

Head of maths Pete Hudson said the “fantastic results” for A* to C exam passes this year were 62.3 per cent – which is not only better than the average for Lincolnshire schools (56 per cent) but better than the national average (59 per cent).

Mr Hudson said: “OFSTED now measure the levels of progress made by the pupils. We have doubled the three levels of progress and quadrupled the four levels of progress. This means that at all levels the pupils at the school make better than expected progress.

“Due to a committed staff and an emphasis on traditional behaviour values and innovative ideas we have made Birkbeck a centre of excellence in Lincolnshire.”
