Grammar school cadets visit RAF base in Cyprus

Two members of the King Edward VI Grammar School Combined Cadet Force went on a trip to Cyprus.

Flt Lt Caroline Reeve and Cadet L/Cpl Ben Vincent joined cadets from across the UK for the 10 day long camp at RAF Akrotiri.

They enjoyed leadership training, a visit to the Red Arrows and the U2 American spy plane, tried out the laser range and climbing wall and had a chance to improve on their marksmanship skills.

They worked together as a team on the climbing wall, one belaying whilst the other climbed.

The goup visited the UN buffer zone and went across the border into Northern Cyprus, which was a cultural delight with everyone enjoying the trek up to St Hilarion Castle, and then into Kyrenia for some local food and exploration.

The rest of the camp activities included clay pigeon shooting, go karting, bowling, sports, ice skating, a visit to Curium ampitheatre and Choirokoitia ruins and karaoke.

Ben said: “Wow….What an experience.”
