Down Your Wold is a new community heritage project within the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The Down Your Wold Project aims to inspire and assist communities in the Lincolnshire Wolds to become involved with and learn about their local heritage through giving people the chance to take part in a series of taster, training and development events over two years.
The project will also investigate, survey and record how settlements in the AONB have evolved over time.
Since receiving £82,600 funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund in January, Heritage Lincolnshire and the Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside Service have appointed Felix Mayle as the full-time Project Officer for Down Your Wold. Felix is an employee of Heritage Lincolnshire, but based within the Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside Service’s office in Louth. Felix said, “The Lincolnshire Wolds are a rich and diverse historic landscape and I hope that through Down Your Wold, we will be able to help people to further understand and enjoy it by delving a little deeper into the heritage outside their front door.”
Liz Bates, the Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Lincolnshire said of the project, “The natural beauty of the Lincolnshire Wolds is well known and often explored, but its rich heritage is also ‘outstanding’. Heritage Lincolnshire is delighted to be working with Felix and the team at the Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside Service on a project to highlight just how special the area is. We hope that the activities will help communities within the Wolds to explore their area and discover its fascinating history.”
What makes Down your Wold more exciting is that you, the participant, get to choose what to look at and get involved with. The project merely provides the guidance, tools and expert advice to help you reach your objectives. The one guarantee is that it will be a lot of fun and educational too.
