THE Leader can confirm spring has officially sprung!

Jayne Caws contacted us to say she spotted and heard a cuckoo on Sunday in North Somercotes.

Cuckoos famously lay their eggs in the nests of other species.

They are often highly secretive and in many cases best known for their wide repertoire of calls.

Calls are usually relatively simple, resembling whistles, flutes, or hiccups.

They are used in order to demonstrate ownership of a territory and to attract a mate.
