Former chief executive of East Lindsey District Council, Nigel Howells, received £31,839 pay of three months salary when he left the authority last Christmas on medical advice.

According to ELDC’s communications spokesman, the one-off payment was three months’ salary to which the former boss was entitled under his contract.

“He was not paid to leave the authority,” insisted James Gilbert.

Between Easter last year, when he signed off sick, and December, when his resignation was confirmed, Mr Howells received pay amounting to £115,392.
