Gatwick train carriage arrives at Lincolnshire Wolds Railway

A former carriage from the Gatwick Express train from London Victoria to Gatwick Airport has arrived at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway in Ludborough.

It was transported by road from Derby on a special low-loader lorry where it had been converted by Railway Vehicle Engineering Ltd to the LWR’s specification.

It will be used at at the station’s Steaming Kettle Buffet. One half has seating with tables and the other is open plan for use as a children’s play area and for improved access for the disabled. LWR’s Frank Street said: “The new carriage is immaculate inside.”

The older carriage it has replaced has itself been taken away for conversion as a track recording vehicle for Network Rail.
