A GIANT slave-led lobster, an angry camel and kangaroos on stilts will be the highlights as SO Festival dips its toes into Mablethorpe.

The annual spectacular has been extended from its traditional Skegness base into a nine-day music, art and theatre festival covering much of the district.

Mablethorpe will get its piece of the pie next Wednesday, June 27, the same day as the Olympic torch visits the town, meaning locals and tourists are in for a spectacular day.

The Camel Explorers and Bobbies act features a bad-tempered camel being ridden by two explorers, and Lobster a la Carte is a giant red crustacean riding a cart led by a human slave.

The two, along with musicians Hot Dinners and hopping kangaroos Roo’d will be in the town centre from 8.30am until 10am.

Meanwhile Play Rangers will be providing fun and games on the beach at 3pm.

East Lindsey District Council’s Leader, Coun Doreen Stephenson, said the street theatre offered ‘something for everyone’.

“It is also a great opportunity for residents and visitors to the region to see local events, venues and performers working alongside nationally acclaimed artists bringing their acts to the district,” she said.

“Our festival programme is an important part of our efforts to support the economy by broadening the tourist offer and attracting visitors to our area.”

All this comes before Mablethorpe hosts a dodgeball tournament on Saturday, July 21, as well as slacklining and family cricket exactly a week later.

The council are also celebrating the town’s Thursday market as part of National Markets Day which falls on Monday, giving the markets an extra push to encourage people to go down and see their appeal.
