St Margaret’s CE Primary School in Withern has been inviting a rather unusual visitor to the school every Wednesday - a lovable collie called Griff.
Local dog Griff is the first dog outside of Devon to be trained up by ‘Dogs Helping Kids’, a charity that helps to build children’s confidence when reading aloud and allows children to get used to interacting with dogs in a controlled environment.
The scheme at St Margaret’s has been running for 18-months, in order to help reluctant readers to build confidence. A spokesperson for the school told the Leader that it has been effective, and that there has been a “big impact” as a direct result of the initiative.
