AFTER a successful boiler test, Grimsby and Cleethorpes Model Engineering Society member Dave Smith, of Louth, prepares to take his 7-1/4in gauge Great Western tank locomotive for a run on the club track.

With just days to go, members’ steam models have come under scrutiny from the club boiler inspectors, John Britton and Mike Halliday.

All boilers in model locomotives, traction engines and stationary engines owned by society members are obliged to undergo a steam test every year and a hydraulic test every four years to ensure their safety.

This year 15 boilers – principally on locomotives - were tested in readiness for the new season that begins at the Easter weekend. All passed with flying colours.

The society opens the gates to the public at its Waltham Windmill site on Easter Sunday, giving train rides for both children and adults from 12noon to about 4pm.

The running season continues every Sunday and bank holiday weekend until about October.
