KATE Smith presiding welcomed Sue Ravenall, a Women’s Institute Adviser, and trainee adviser Dianne Tuckett as visitors to the annual meeting of Hainton and district Women’s Institute held in South Willingham Parish Hall.
Before leaving they offered words of encouragement to the small group of members and said how much they had enjoyed the evening while complementing them on being ‘a jolly lot’. Reports on the past successful year were presented by the secretary and treasurer and the president thanked all the members for their support and the committee members in particular for their work for the branch. Kate Smith was re-elected as president with Ann Harpham vice president, Vera Miles treasurer, Yvonne Twitchett secretary and Trish Miles competitions secretary. Ann Ringrose is the ‘meet and greet‘ hostess with responsibility for refreshments too, Ruby Willoughby organises the birthday posies for members and supervises the sales table and Kathleen Willoughby runs the raffles. Provisional arrangements were made for the annual anniversary party in April when visitors will be invited for a meal and entertainment and once the business had been completed a fun completion was arranged.
Members had been invited to take along a picture of themselves when much younger and the winner was the person who identified the most rather than the best picture being chosen as usual.
It generated a lot of fun and was not easy, but Ruby Willoughby was the expert and was placed first with Celia Payne and Vera Miles joint second.
The best entries in the flower of the month competition for a vase of foliage were shown by Kate Smith, Stella Gray and Ruby Willoughby.
