A marathon man from Authorpe is gunning for one of his toughest challenges yet after being taking inspiration from his friends’ and parents’ battles with cancer.
Martin Clarke, 55, is taking on the Coniston Marathon in the Lake District on July 7 to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Despite not running a marathon for a number of years, Martin is ready to tackle his sixth after seeing his father suffer from cancer and his mother undergo chemotherapy.
“The charity has personal connections for me, as apart from losing friends in our village my father suffered a form of cancer before his death,” he said.
“My mother is also now recovering after a bowel cancer operation.
“The treatment my father received and that my mother is receiving now would not be possible without fundraising.”
Martin has taken on marathons in London, Mablethorpe and even New Zealand in the past, and says he will be happy with a time of under four hours.
He can be sponsored by calling 01507 450451 or by calling into NT Shaw Garage in North Holme Road, Louth.
