Kittens born to stray cat at the Ark home

The arrival of Spring has welcomed the first kittens born at the Ark Animal Rescue and Retirement Home in North Somercotes.

One-year-old Lola arrived at the Ark a heavily pregnant stray. She was only with them a week before giving birth to four kittens and being very young she was unaware of what was happening to her.

An Ark spokeswoman said: “She was very lucky to be at the Ark as we fear that if unattended her kittens may not have made it. They are all steadily gaining weight and Lola seems to have taken to motherhood well.

“Once the kittens are re-homed, at eight weeks, Lola will be spayed before being homed herself.”

They added: “As always many of our admissions have come to us owing to unavoidable circumstances one such tale is that of Sophie and Flynn two 16-year-old Dachshunds whose owner had to move into a residential home.

“They are such a lovely pair and after having some much needed dental work neither have many teeth remaining but are so content especially with their daily scrambled eggs!”
