Maltby Le Marsh lad Sam Hewson will play in the anticipated Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships on Sunday evening (January 4) and is the youngest player in the competition.
The 21-year-old is currently darting off to the Lakeside Country Club, Frimley Green in Surrey where the televised championships is taking place.
In it’s 30th year, Lakeside is the most exciting championships on the calendar in the darts world and is always very popular with the viewing public.
Ahead of his match on Sunday, which will be played between 8-9pm, Sam is up against former world title holder Scott Waites and comments on competing in the world championships.
“I have a very tough game ahead of me against an opponent who has already won the world title and has plenty experience, but there will be a lot of pressure for him to do well.
“My aim is to go up there, enjoy it and give it my best as always.
“I’m feeling nervous, who wouldn’t, but I’m feeling confident that I can do myself justice up there, you have to be.
“I have played against Scott before and beaten him twice in doubles competitions, but he has beaten me previously in 4-2 in our only singles event meeting.”
Sam also expresses how grateful he is for all of the local support.
He added: “The amount of messages of support I’ve received is unbelievable over social media and text messages.
“Plus 54 local people from the Mablethorpe and Skegness areas are travelling down to see me and have tickets for my game, this really humbles me and is just fantastic.”
The championships start from tomorrow (Saturday) and we wish Sam the very best of luck for his match on Sunday.
Don’t forget to show your support for this local darts star.
