LINCOLNSHIRE’s NHS Trust has been recognised as a top gay-friendly employer by Stonewall.
The charity has listed Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust among its equality list which showcases Britain’s best employers for lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) staff.
The trust had to demonstrate workplace culture and activity representing policy, practice and service user engagement.
Trust equality lead, Sandy Zavery, said: “The trust is committed to providing a working environment which reflects equality of opportunity and experience for all and we are delighted to be ranked in the Stonewall list of employers.”
The index is based on a range of key indicators which this year included the largest ever survey of LGB employees, with over 7,000 participants.
It is designed to measure equality practices in the workplace and demonstrable improvement in providing a supportive and inclusive working environment for LGB staff.
This is evidenced by looking at all areas of employment practice, staff support and local involvement with LGB communities.
The NHS trust is now using this process to assess and identify gaps to improve accessibility to local mental health services and employment practices.
It will be concentrating on helping to ensure that staff from LGB backgrounds are visible (where they want to be) and feel confident to influence policy and change across both employment and services.
This will include further development of staff networks and re-examining contractual arrangements with providers of some services for staff and service users to ensure that the trust is compliant with the latest public sector equality duty.
