A LIVES legend from Sutton on Sea has sadly had to retire due to ill health but takes away seven years service and a lot of touching memories.

Keith Auvache, 69, has been on a remarkable journey with LIVES and has been called out to over 30 cardiac arrests and over 700 999 calls throughout the many of his voluntary 60-hour weeks.

Keith retired at the end of December 2013 after seven unforgettable years, but his LIVES story began in 2006 after a strong medical background of 30 years with the Essex Ambulance Service.

Keith volunteered for LIVES with his wife Yvonne and the duo became partners, attending most of the call outs as a team.

But sadly for Keith, Yvonne was struck down with cancer and she lost her fight with the disease in 2009.

Keith was determined to carry on with his post within LIVES as he felt there was a ‘connection’ to Yvonne through the life saving work he did and this was also a way of keeping her memory alive, so Keith was given the go ahead by LIVES HQ to return to his position in just a few short months.

During his role as Coordinator and trainer for the Sutton on Sea LIVES First Responder group, Keith has many memories of the lives he has helped to save and accolades in recognition of his hard work and determination.

Keith said: “To me, my work is not measured in accolades and awards, it’s all about the people that I have had the great privilege of helping.

“I would just like to take this opportunity to thank the general public who support LIVES, without them the work the voluntary organisation does would not be possible.

“To all the charity organisations who help raise funds for LIVES including Community Spirit and Music and Mirth and individual charity fundraisers like Tom Collins.

“And finally a big thank you goes out to the wonderful staff at LIVES HQ in Horncastle who support us and of course to all the responders who put in their time and dedication in keeping the LIVES charity running in Sutton on Sea.”
