A Louth couple celebrated a magnificent milestone at the weekend after marking their Emerald Anniversary, representing 55 years of marriage together.
Barbara and Malcolm Brown, both 78 years old, have both lived in the Louth area for their whole lives, and first met when they were teenagers at Monks’ Dyke School.
They reunited a few years later at an engagement party when they were 21 years old, and got engaged shortly after.
The couple married at the Holy Trinity Church on December 19, 1959, and they went on to have three children - Debs, Nicky and Heidi - and six grandchildren and two great granchildren.
Barbara and Malcolm were treated to a surprise party with their family on Saturday, where their children also revealed that they had teamed up to buy them a trip to the Emerald Isle itself - Ireland.
When asked the secret behind a long and happy marriage, Barbara replied: “Compassion and family”.
