On Monday, December 10, at the Playhouse Cinema, Louth Film Club will be showing The African Queen, one of the all-time greats of American cinema.
John Huston’s sharp-witted adventure movie, starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn, was digitally restored last year to celebrate its 60th anniversary and should be a treat to watch on the big screen.
Set in German East Africa at the start of World War I, the film tells the story of Charlie Allnutt (Bogart), the boozy skipper of steamboat The African Queen, and Rose Sayer (Hepburn), a prim missionary he reluctantly agrees to take with him on a dangerous downriver voyage.
The African Queen is Certificate U. The show starts at 7.30pm. Non-members are welcome, paying the normal Playhouse Cinema ticket prices.
