SLIMMERS in Mablethorpe and Alford have good reason to celebrate the New Year after shedding a huge 516 stones between them in 2011.
The 200-strong membership of the four Slimming World groups in the towns can look forward to a healthier 2012.
Slimming World consultant in Mablethorpe and Alford, Lisa Riches, had high praise for her dedicated members.
She said: “To see people changing week after week is the most amazing thing ever.
“I know there are more people out there who want to become healthier and fitter in 2012.”
“I believe I can help them achieve their dreams too and I know 2012 is going to be an even more successful year,” she added.
To put the weight loss figure into perspective, 516 stones is equal to 3.2 tonnes or around the weight of three family cars, 7,224 tins of baked beans or nearly 15,000 festive mince pies.
Lisa, who has run the four groups since April 2010, has lost eight stones and eight pounds since she began her slimming plan and is now within touching distance of her overall ten stone weight loss goal.
She is a Slimming World member herself and attends a weekly group in Skegness.
Lisa is appealing for more local people who might like to shed those unwanted Christmas pounds to try out one of the Slimming World groups, stressing the friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
“My message to anyone out there who feels they would love to join but feel they can’t is that they really can with no judgement or criticism,” Lisa explained.
“I do understand it can be hard for some people to face their weight problems but we are like one big family.”
She continued: “We don’t have strangers in group, they are just friends you have yet to meet.
The Mablethorpe groups meet on a Wednesday at the Community Hall in Stanley Avenue at 9.30am, 11.30am and 7pm.
The Alford group meets at St Wilfrid’s Church Hall in East Street, on Monday mornings at 10am.
