A Theddlethorpe man returned home to discover someone had broken into his house and stolen a dvd player, a court heard.

Daniel Robert Smith, 22, of Somersby Avenue, Mablethorpe, admitted breaking into the house in Mablethorpe Road on July 21 and stealing a dvd player and two soft drinks, valued at £113.

Prosecuting, Nick Todd told Skegness magistrates Smith broke in through a window, causing £400 damage and was arrested after being identified forensically. Smith told police he was drunk and didn’t know what he’d done with the dvd player, but thought he might have thrown it into a ditch.

In defence, Gordon Holt said Smith, serving a community order, was ‘heavily drunk’ and since July had matured.

Smith was given four months in prison, suspended for a year, a 12 month community order and 150 hours unpaid work.
