Mablethorpe man killed in collision on the A1 at Haggerston, Northumberland

A 70-year-man from Mablethorpe was pronounced dead at the scene of a collision involving an ambulance just before 7pm on Tuesday evening (October 29) on the A1 at Haggerston, Northumberland.

Northumbria Police released the name of the fatality yesterday (October 30). He has been identified as Eric Shaw.

Officers received a report that an ambulance had collided with a pedestrian on the A1 southbound near to Haggerston.

Sgt Jason Ryder from Northumbria Police said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what happened.

“We know that Mr Shaw had travelled on the Arriva X15 bus from Alnwick to Berwick and got off at the Haggerston A1 stop.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Mr Shaw at this difficult time.”
