A Mablethorpe motorcycle trio have gone from John O’Groats to Lands End, covering 1,065 miles - all in the name of charity and raising £2,000 in the process.
Paul Mitchell, 48, Gary Barnes, 52 and Mick Hancock, 49, returned from their journey last week to a heroes’ welcome at Dreams Bar in Trusthorpe with a crowd of close family and friends standing outside, all ready to welcome them home.
The trio decided to use their passion for motorbikes and take on the ultimate challenge to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, a cause very to close their hearts.
Paul commented: “We all know a vast amount of people that have been lost to cancer and Cancer Research UK is a fantastic cause.”
Paul says the trio enjoyed an amazing journey.
“It was an absolutely incredible ride for all of us. Definitely something to tick off our bucket list and I would encourage anyone to do the challenge as it truly was a once in a lifetime experience,” he said
“The first day for us was the hardest and most challenging,” Gary continued.
“But it was very worthwhile when we reached the end.”
“It was very windy and cold as well. If you would have said that we would have been scraping off snow from our visors, then I wouldn’t have believed it,” Paul added.
“We covered around 200-300 miles a day and sawincredible sites along the way. If we didn’t have the challenge of time constraints, then we all would have loved to have stayed in some of the areas we went through for a lot longer as they were beautiful.
“Now all we are thinking is what to do next and where to go as we are very keen to do another fundraising event next year.
“It would be great to make this an annual event, raising money for worthy causes, maybe even Cancer Research UK again. But we would like to thank everyone who came to welcome us home and everyone who has sponsored us, no matter how much a contribution it was as every penny counts.
“We hope to have raised just over £2,000 by the time all the money has come in.”
Paul, Gary and Mick would like to thank all of their sponsors, who without their help and support, the trip would not have been possible - The Boating Lake Diner, Skegness, Mark Cutler, Suzuki Technician - Lincoln, The Dunes Complex, Grayscroft Coaches, The Louth Hotel, The Montalt Arms, CKC Graphics, Mablethorpe Carpet Warehouse, The Book In Hand, A1 Taxis, Steve Kirk Electrical, Dreams Bar, Jesters Bar, The Remington Club and Menzies Hotels.
