Man arrested for driving offences and assault following Louth war memorial crash


A driver has been arrested and bailed following a crash in Louth which left the war memorial damaged.

As reported previously the driver, a 28 year-old local man, initially left the scene but subsequently made contact with police and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, failing to stop after an accident, dangerous driving, and assault.

He has been bailed until May 4 to allow the investigation to continue.

The collision occurred around 8.45pm on Sunday evening, involving a black Fiat Punto, which caused substantial damage to Louth’s war memorial.

Any witnesses who have not already spoken with police, are asked to call 101, quoting incident number 363 of March 15.
