MRSA cases down at hospitals in the county

INFECTION rates at Lincolnhsire hospitals, including Louth County Hospital, are down says the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

New figures show the number of cases of MRSA in hospitals run by the trust have reduced by 61 per cent in the last year to nine cases.

The number of cases of Clostridium difficile dropped by 41 per cent over the last year.

Initiatives including deep cleans, raising awareness of hand hygiene, staff dedication to infection prevention and control and reducing the levels of antibiotic prescribing have made the reductions possible.

Sylvia Knight, Director of Nursing and Patient Services, said: “The reductions we have seen have been very impressive and I am proud of all our staff, patients and visitors who have helped to ensure that we keep our rates as low as possible.”
