New Mablethorpe councillor to take up the fight for facilities

INDEPENDENT candidate David Mellor has been voted on to Mablethorpe Town Council after winning the by-election on Thursday, March 22.

The North Ward election was triggered by the resignation of Carl Tebbutt in November.

Coun Mellor received 297 votes while Labour candidate Steph Carruthers got 143 votes and Daniel Turner and Graham Parkhurst received 30 and 28 votes respectively.

David, an MOT tester and a man ‘born and bred’ in Mablethorpe, told the Leader becoming a town councillor would be a ‘steep learning curve’.

He said: “I hope to represent the views of everyone, I’m all for the people.

“I will fight to keep the town’s day centre open, keep local bus services, get more activities organised on the beach like Mablethorpe used to have, and encourage tourism.

“Thanks to everyone that voted me in and helped with my campaign, without them I wouldn’t be there.”
