NEWSFLASH: Officer injured as two men flee WH Smith in Louth after burglary

A POLICE officer was injured as two men fled from a burglary at WH Smith in Louth in the early hours of this morning (Thursday).

One man was arrested at the scene while police hunt down the other after the two men attemped to flee after breaking into the Market Place store around 2am.

As police arrived one of the men threw an object at an officer, causing a hand injury.

One of the suspects made away from officers while the other escaped in a silver vehicle later found abandoned outside St James’ Church in Upgate.

A 22-year-old Nottingham man was arrested close by and is being questioned at Skegness Magistrates Court.

Meanwhile police are searching for the other suspect and believe he may still be in the Louth area.

There is no detailed description of the outstanding suspect but he is understood to be a white male, tall in height, wearing a hooded top.

The shop remains closed while forensic examinations are completed, and as yet it is unclear what exactly has been stolen.
